Dormitory Build for Scholarship Students – Nicaragua
Summary:
As part of the computer classes for scholarship program (One Laptop Per Student) , those students would need a place to stay overnight in Rio Blanco due to their long travel times into town from their homes. We are contributing to build this two story dormitory which also require the installation of a septic system to build new bathroom and bathing facilities.
One Laptop Per Child Pilot Program
Summary: This program is providing one of our nine elementary schools with one laptop per child as a pilot program to start introducing technology into the classrooms of very rural and remote schools.
This program is managed in Nicaragua by the Zamora Teran Foundation. This organization sells and services the laptops while also providing support and training to the schools where they are in use. The laptops use little electricity, have long battery lives, and contain programming that integrates smoothly with existing primary school curriculums.
The Cost: The program start-up cost is $250 per laptop (per child) and includes the following:
- XO Laptop Teachers Training
- Development of a teachers training plan
- Technical Support
- Monitoring and Evaluation
- Detailed presentation of the project’s results
The FFF has provided 60 laptops so far and we are sponsoring the first round of 13 students for their training program – this sponsorship also incudes travel arrangements, food and dormitory accommodation to ensure all of their needs are met at the cost of USD$50 per month.
Project Update!
Computers were installed on 10th May 2017 and the dormitory build is almost complete!
